The other aim of the project was to really challange urban typologies and how you can graft new developments into the urban context in new ways

Ciritical to Connor’s design was the primary research he gathered. Conor built up his project around information obtained from first hand experiences via interviews

Nicole is a 51 year old mother of three who kindly shared with me her story and thoughts on the experience of single motherhood.

Her words inspired much of my thinking throughout the project and led to me collecting more personal narratives from other women who have experienced single perent hood which inspired the design of all the shared spaces throughout the homes.

From this in depth and emotional insight into single motherhood I decided my project must focus on issues of security, stability and support. From Nicoles explanation of connecting wiht another single mother, I the support received by the woman should be from one another and that this could be encouraged by the buildings design.

By arranging the shared spaces, inspired by the following narratives, around the circulation of the building the families will constantly be in contact with one another as the journey through their residence. Also by not seperating thise spaces as new rooms but offsetting them as an extension of the circulation itself the opportunity for members of the community to fall into an isolated lifestyle is almost entirely removed.
